RWA 2012 - Thursday Report

Live from Anaheim
I'm at RWA, sitting in my hotel room listening to Sophie Jordan and Tera Lynn Childs talk about their presentation on writing YA trilogies tomorrow. This is such a marvelous conference--so many talented writers, agents and editors in one place!

I'll admit, I have fangirl moments. Today I was trying to ride the elevator to the 30th floor, only to stop at the 17th where Nora Roberts and friends got on. Her friend asked if I was just riding the elevator. I told her I was looking for room 3042 and La Nora in her gravelly voice told me, "Too bad. There are only seventeen floors, dear." And then she and her posse proceeded to good-naturedly bust my chops all the way to the lobby. Loved it!!!

So that's my celeb story so far. Then there was the vodka party, my agency luncheon with some wonderful writers, and inspiring workshops with Shana Galen, Sophie Jordan and Dee Gist, and others. All in all a great day in Anaheim.

Wish you were here!

If you could hang with any living author who would it be?

Dang it! You're at RWA? I popped by Wednesday morning to meet some friends. Really bummed I missed you. Hope you're having an incredible time. :)

Hi, Lark,
Now I'm wondering about the mysterious room 3042. How fun to ride the elevator with Nora Roberts--and be good-naturedly mocked in that gravelly voice. Drat, you skimmed over the vodka party and agency luncheon. Glad, though, about the inspiring workshops--and inspiring writers from WHRWA. Keep up the good work--and better fun!

Oh Lark, how I envy you! I once had a fan-girl moment with Nora Roberts and another one with Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I would love to have one with Jenny Crusie, too, then my fan-girl life would finally be complete!

Sorry I didn't get to meet you, August! It would have been fun to see you in person.

SEP is one of my favorites, too, Sheila. A couple years ago I got to talk with her at length at the literacy signing because no one was at her table--she didn't have a release and no one queued up to chat.

One of my friends introduced me to Jennie Crusie at my first National. She's delightful. She also isn't here this year, though.

My big fangirl moments were JR Ward in DC--she didn't have anyone lined up at the publisher signing so I got to chat a little with her. It was hard not to do a Wayne's World "I'm not worthy."

Room 3042 was in a different building and only the 3rd floor, Pat. Who knew?

As for the vodka party...our table got shhsshed a few times after appropriating an abandoned tray of pomegranate martinis. Hey, they were left on a stand behind me and an agent I won't name insisted we needed another round while we waited for the room to fill up. We were at the back of the room and couldn't hear the program due to a bad sound system so naturally we chatted among ourselves. All in all a fun party. Sorry you weren't there!
